"Wow! Really?!"
My immediate reaction after skimming the Personal and Professional Pursuit of Excellence Symposium agenda. What's even more amazing is how much resources and information they intend to impart throughout the course of the day long affair!
Those hoping for information on how to build their resume craftsmanship will get all of the pertinent details on designing and writing a compelling resume, but also learn the approach to creating your own self branding. Techniques from industry professionals will be imparted throughout the symposium and attendees will leave equipped with the inspiration and techniques to begin constructing their own self-brand.
Niche refinement is a unique item on the agenda as well. This is an interesting topic based on its limited availability at other professional development workshops. Of all the interesting workshops being held at the symposium, this is the one I find most enticing as it will allow the space for individuals to define how they feel they can best contribute in their preferred industry and will provide tools for attendees to create their very own niche and find success.
The Canadian Council on Learning study found that, in 2002, the top barriers to pursuing education or training in people aged 25 to 64 were financial constraints, work conflicts and family responsibilities. This symposium fits right at the intersection of helping you develop transferrable skills that will build your professional acumen and will not require a significant time or financial committment.
This symposium will do more than just tell you what to do, it'll equip you with the information to do for yourself! I'm looking forward especially to the strategic insights attendees will take from the teamwork exercises and from doing some self reflection. The teamwork exercise will pull on your leadership skills and ability to build rapport with individuals you will eventually add to your social network.
There is so much to look forward to at this symposium and I don't think this blog post can capture all of the insights or lessons there will be between the workshops and team building. The Personal and Professional Pursuit of Excellence is a much needed change from the traditional didactic lectures for the self-motivated.
